IPID Investigating Lenasia South Shootout

November 28, 2016

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 28-11-2016

Police watchdog IPID says it’s investigating the circumstances surrounding a shootout in Lenasia South between police and residents in which a 54-year-old woman was killed.

Its understood officers from the Lenasia South police station responded to a complaint of a shooting incident in Extension 1 on Sunday when they were fired upon from individuals in an unknown vehicle.

Police say they returned fire and after preliminary investigations discovered that a 54-year-old female sustained a gunshot and died while a 19-year-old was wounded in the leg.

IPID’s Moses Dlamini says investigators were at the scene and also attended the post mortem of the woman to determine the exact details of the shooting.

“The firearms were also collected from a private individual as well as from the police officers involved and they’ve been sent for ballistic testing. Once all the evidence has been collected and processed we will then make a recommendation to the director of public prosecutions.”
