International Flights to Saudi Arabia to Remain Suspended

September 03, 2020

Arab News reports that international flights are to remain suspended in Saudi Arabia until further notice. Confusion seems to have arisen after Saudi Arabian Airlines published travel requirements for a number of countries, including South Africa. The Kingdom had publicized a listing of travel conditions as well.

Saudi Arabia suspended international flights from March 15 as part of measures to curb the spread of COVID-19. Domestic flights, however, had resumed on May 31.

According to Arab News, the only international flights permitted will be for residents departing from the Kingdom back to their home countries. Further, only those registering on the ‘Awdah initiative’, aimed at expats wanting to return to home, will be permitted to leave Saudi Arabia by air.

Meanwhile, the listing of travel conditions includes filling out a health disclaimer, as well as undergoing a seven-day self-quarantine at home. Passengers would also be required to register on the Tetamman app, which would allow for their self-isolation to be monitored. Further, Arab News reports that registration on the Tawakkalna app is also a requirement. The app reportedly helps in the early detection of possible coronavirus infection once user show symptoms. Passengers have also to provide a home location on the apps within eight hours of arrival in their home country, and monitor any possible symptoms of coronavirus infection.
