Social media site Instagram is back online after a brief outage.

The photo sharing platform stopped working this morning with users unable to see people’s pictures or profiles and were instead being met with a message that the app “cannot refresh feed”.

Those who attempted to access the desktop site were also greeted with the message: “5xx Server Error.

It’s believed the worldwide outage was caused by a technical fault.

World Wide Worx Arthur Goldstuck said: “Instagram was down for about an hour across the world and it seems to be related to the issue  they’ve been having for the last couple of weeks because we saw in fact that Facebook had a major problem with a hack where people were able to get into accounts because of a flaw in their system.”
