The SA Welcomes Modi Organizing Committee says it will welcome Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the traditional greeting of Siyakwamukela Modi, which reflects the warmth and embrace of South Africa’s diverse community.
The committee has officially launched the grand community event planned for Modi who is expected to arrive in South Africa next month for an official state visit.
Committee chair Raman Dhawan says Modi will address a community reception that brings together individuals not only from one of the oldest Indian communities outside of India but also the broader South African community as well.
“This visit augurs well for South Africa and India’s relationship, as for the very first time, an Indian head of state will address a public gathering of this magnitude on South African soil.”
Dhawan says South Africa’s bond with India spans over five generations where Mahatma Gandhi and former President Nelson Mandela gave birth to new ideals of freedom and democracy.
At the same time time, vice-chairman of the welcoming committee Mukesh Patel says they have received no resistance to Modi’s upcoming visit to South Africa.
“We have seen only enthusiasm and encouragement from every walk of life.”
The committee says the coming together of the Indian diaspora as well as South Africans sees an unprecedented enthusiasm for a new vision of unity and friendship.
