Indian diplomat jailed for feeding Pakistan information

A female Indian diplomat convicted of passing secret government information to Pakistan has been jailed for three years.

The lawyer of Madhuri Gupta has confirmed the sentencing after she was found guilty in a New Delhi court.

Charges against her include “spying and wrongful communication of information” while she was stationed at the Indian embassy in Islamabad.

The 61, was arrested in 2010 for allegedly passing information to the ISI, the intelligence agency of Pakistan.

Gupta’s lawyer, Joginder Dahiya, says they plan to appeal the ruling.
