Faizel Patel, 2016-05-25

The Muslim community in Soweto are in shock following the passing of the grand Imam of the Soweto Masjid in Soweto, south of Johannesburg.

Sheikh Ebrahim Jele passed away in hospital yesterday after a long illness.

Chairperson of the Soweto Muslim Association Ubata Ntshinyani says Moulana Jele believed in the unity of Muslims irrespective of colour and race.

“He was a man who tried to unite most of our brothers in Soweto and he was also a man who believed in Dawah.” He used to say we had to behave in such a manner that people are attracted into the fold of Islam.”

Besides being Imam of the Soweto Masjid, Ubata says Ml. Jele was involved in a number of activities at the masjid including dawah work, tabligh and zikr.
