A seven-year-old girl battling pulmonary hypertension (ph) for the past three years has sadly passed away.
It’s understood Humayra Bodhania’s parents Ahmed and Shaakira were taking their daughter to India for medical treatment on Tuesday when she passed away en-route.
According to reports, the plane made an emergency landing in Nairobi in Kenya so that Humayra’s body could be transported back to South Africa for the funeral.
Humayra was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension 3 years ago when she was just 4 years old.
PH is a condition that causes the arteries in the lungs narrow causing the blood flow through the vessels to be under severe pressure making the right side of the heart enlarge and weaken leading to right heart failure.
Earlier this year Humayra and her parents were refused entry into international fashion brand Zara because the little girl was sitting in a trolley.
The Daily Vox reported that employees at Zara’s Cresta Shopping Mall branch refused to make an exception to their rule to accommodate Humyara who had her oxygen tank in a trolley.
Because of her disease, pulmonary hypertension, Humayra used a mobility scooter as she was unable to walk long distances without getting out of breath. But on that particular day she did not have the scooter so she sat in a trolley with her oxygen tank while they shopped.
Humayrah will be buried at the West Park Cemetery on Wednesday.
