How you can increase your charity this year

As winter arrives, the humanitarian need in our communities escalates. Add to that a level four lockdown, and now more than ever, we need to start increasing our charity.

Yes, like many, you’d say that you don’t have the time or know-how to help during a lockdown when you were supposed to be at home.

Well, let me enlighten you – all you need is just a few minutes per week to make a difference.

During the pandemic, the need for blood donations has increased. You could save four lives with a single donation that would take less than thirty minutes of your time.

There are centres set up at malls and other convenient locations and can be done on the weekend. It is effortless, and you will be helping a person in need.

Another great help would be to establish a list in your area of those families affected by the COVID virus. Cook a little extra each day and drop a meal off at a home where the help is required.

Many people say that it’s not so much the need for a meal, but rather the human contact. This has spurred many in communities to reignite “pen pals”, with a modern twist of communicating via emails instead.

The pandemic may be keeping us apart, but that should not change our humanity.

Last but not least, clear out the clutter and donate old socks, shoes and items of care to people in need, especially in your area.

Let it be known that the pandemic has brought on humanity with dignity.
