The Home Affairs Department has embarked on a programme to ensure that all school pupils acquire Smart ID cards after they turn 16 years old.
The department together with the Oliver and Adelaide Tambo Foundation hosted the first rollout of the smart ID’s at the Adelaide Tambo School for the Physically Challenged in Soweto on Monday.
The event is one of the Ministry’s twenty or more outreach programmes taking place countrywide each year.
Speaking to Radio Islam, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Fatima Chohan says the aim of the programme is to create good and upstanding citizens.
“The smart ID card is symbolic of our nation of many different colours, many different cultures, abled and disabled who have a common value system. The values of mutual respect and upholding the dignity of all of human kind.”
