Helen Zille Speak to Radio Islam about her book “Not Without a Fight”

October 12, 2016

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 12-10-2016

Former DA leader and current Premier of the Western Cape Helen Zille says her new book “Not without a fight” is an honest account of her life.

Zille was speaking to Radio Islam this morning about her recently launched autobiography which takes the reader back to her humble family origins, her struggle with anorexia as a young woman, her early career as a journalist for the Rand Daily Mail, and her involvement with the End Conscription Campaign and the Black Sash.

She says the book is a true account of her life.

“Because there are lots of people who know exactly what it was from the inside and you can never fool yourself. So you might as well write a book that future generations will understand what we living through, will understand my strengths and weaknesses of which there is a good account on both sides I hope and will understand the issues we were grappling with at this stage of our history.”

Zille’s new book documents her early days in the Democratic Party and the Democratic Alliance, at a time when the party was locked in a no-holds-barred factional conflict by chronicling the intense political battles to become mayor of Cape Town, leader of the DA and premier of the Western Cape, in the face of dirty tricks from the ANC and infighting within her own party.

“Not without a fight” further explores Zille’s courageous fight against corruption and state capture and her efforts to realign politics and entrench accountability. And it describes a mother’s battle to raise children in the pressured world of South African politics.
