The South African Weather Bureau has said Lesotho and the Eastern Cape could be white with snow today, making it the first sighting of snow. This winter season is expected to bring biting temperatures, beginning over the weekend.

Dipuo Tawana forecasts partly cloudy conditions over most of the country, with light rain in KwaZulu Natal. She also warned of a cold front on the way from the south-western parts of the country.

Meanwhile, the wet, rainy weather in eThekweni has caused flooding and damage to roads in some areas.

Durban taxi driver, Mndeni Mvubu, driving on Earl Haig Road in Morningside, escaped after his minibus was almost swallowed by a massive sinkhole this morning. Shortly after, a tow truck coming to his rescue was trapped in another hole on the same road.

Ernest Smith, Ward 27 councillor, says a burst pipe has undermined the integrity of the road. He added that this spoke to the failing infrastructure in eThekwini, which has been falling on deaf ears of the eThekwini Municipality.

Metro Police have cordoned off the area, fearing further incidents, but communities remain on edge as the rains continue.
