The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) is urging motorists to be extra cautious on the roads as wet weather conditions prevail in Gauteng.
Several accidents have already been reported this morning since the cold snap hit the province.
The SA Weather Service has warned of heavy downpours in Johannesburg, Tshwane and the East Rand with possible flash flooding in certain areas.
The JMPD’s Wayne Minnaar says motorists should be cautious on the roads.
“We’ve got officers on duty since last night in all the areas monitoring the main roads and arterials particularly the Sandton area where we are expecting the protests today. We want to encourage motorists to drive with extra caution because the roads are wet.”
Minnaar says motorists should keep a safe following distance, switch on their cars headlights and to reduce speed because of the possibility of skidding when the roads are wet.
