Acting Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni  says the Health Department will soon announce the lifting of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine suspension.

Ntshavheni was speaking during a post-cabinet meeting briefing on Thursday.

The rollout of Johnson and Johnson vaccine was suspended due to concerns around rare blood clots in some recipients in the US.

Ntshavheni says the latest development comes as the country prepares to take delivery of even more of the Johnson and Johnson vaccines as soon as Monday.

“In terms of the Sisonke vaccine commencement, the department of health will announce the commencement when they suspended. They had to take other measures because there is a recommendation that it must be commenced. The recommencement will be announced by the minister but we are aware we are receiving a dose of one million vaccines I think by Monday latest of J & J.”

Ntshavheni says scientists will continue to monitor all South Africans as and when they are vaccinated.
