The Hawks says it’s concerned about Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan’s handling of their SARS related questions.
In a statement, the Hawks say Gordhan must have known that deadline for a second letter had been set which expired yesterday and have blamed him for leaving them no choice but to clear the air, set the record straight and restore public’s trust on the elite crime fighting unit.
It further states that Hawks Head Mthandazo Ntlemeza sent Gordhan the letter which contained questions which the Minister had to answer for them continue with investigations into the alleged rogue unit at the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
But instead of providing the Hawks with answers, the Finance Minister sent a written response via his legal representatives, Gildenhuys Malatji Attorneys.
The statement also criticises Gordhan for addressing the issue in public saying had he complied by providing answers to the 27 questions the situation would we would not have deteriorated.
The Hawks also accuse Gordhan of demanding preferential treatment and say the unit’s legal team are forging a way forward which will see the Hawks exercising their constitutional powers.
