Hawks Close to Arresting Maths Paper Leak Culprits

November 14, 2016

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 14-11-2016

The basic education department says it has been assured by the Hawks that culprits who leaked a matric examination paper would be arrested soon.

The mathematics paper two was leaked to pupils at a school in Giyani two weeks ago.

Department spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga told Radio Islam the investigation by the Hawks has gone very well.

“We have come even closer to finding out who did this and we hope that in the next few days the police will be telling us that an arrest has been made.”

Mhlanga says police have all the evidence and have questioned all the people who came into contact with the question paper via Whatsapp.

He says officials in the department may been implicated in the leak of the mathematics paper.

“The only people who are very close to the question papers are education department officials. So the only way it could leave the system was when one person in the chain allows it to go out of our safekeeping.”

This is the second consecutive year that a matric exam paper has been leaked.
