Walking into the Haram in Makkah and seeing the holy Ka’ba is a mesmerizing experience, brightly lit, it casts a beautiful glow leaving you with memories that will remain in your heart forever.
However, have you ever wondered how much lighting it takes to illuminate the Haram?
According to Saudi Gazette, 120,000 lighting units illuminate the Haram, its courtyards, roof, and minarets, forming a unique lighting pattern that resembles a necklace.
The lighting units have been custom-manufactured for the Haram, reflecting the interest of the authorities to develop and improve facilities at the Two Holy Mosques.
Assistant Director of the General Administration for Operation and Maintenance of Field Affairs Amer Bin Awad Al-Luqmani says that lighting units are distributed across the Haram and are connected with a special control station.
The Haram says has 304 chandeliers with various shapes and sizes in the second Saudi expansion, including more than 1,000 lighting units that are attached to the columns and external walls of the sacred area.
While some lighting units that illuminate with the word Allah also light the upper pillars of the architectural arches inside the masjid and its passages.
Al-Luqmani says the lighting units spread their lights across the yards and minarets of the Haram and its neighboring atmospheres with 2,000 watts of power for each unit, adding beauty to the sanctity of the place.
Maintenance teams are tasked with checking and evaluating every lighting point in the Haram on a regular basis.
