“We live in a time where the Muslims word has become very cheap, we ourselves are not convinced that once we’ve given the word we need to uphold it.”
These are the words of renowned Islamic scholar and Radio Islam presenter Mufti Yusuf Moosagie rendering advice about honouring your word as a Muslim in Islam.
Mufti Moosagie says in the opening verses of Surah Maidah Allah draws attention to Muslims to fulfil their covenants and their trust.
“When you give your word to someone then uphold your word. The messenger (pbuh) on occasion told someone I’ll meet you at a specific place and Nabi (pbuh) waited for three days at that place and that person didn’t pitch up. And after 3 days he (Nabi {pbuh}) said you put me through some inconvenience. That was the degree to which he honoured his word.”
Mufti Moosagie says these are aspects of Islam which some Muslims have isolated from the religion.
“We think of deen only to be with regards to ibadaat, yet part of our deen is the manner in which we deal with one another, how we come across.”
