Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has warned prospective pilgrims against using the Umrah permit to enable another person to perform Umrah, instead of the person permitted via the I’tamarna app.
The ministry said, “This is not allowed and is contrary to the instructions of the I’tamarna and Tawakkalna applications.”
The Saudi Gazette reports that the ministry says that the Umrah permit is to be issued only through the I’tamarna application. The Tawakkalna application is not to be used to book an Umrah pilgrimage. The Ministry added that vaccination against the coronavirus is not a requirement to apply for an Umrah permit.
Further, the Ministry said that social media messages stating that there were two time periods for Umrah reservations – the first for the 1st to the 18th of Ramadhaan, and the second for the 19th to the 30th of Ramadhaan – were false.
The Saudi Gazette reports that the Umrah reservation is available to all. This includes citizens and residents of the Kingdom, as well as visitors, right up until the end of March. However, it is as yet unclear whether the ban on South Africans entering the Kingdom will be lifted in time for those who wish to perform a Ramadhaan Umrah. South Africa was just one of 20 countries whose nationals had been barred from entering Saudi Arabia, due to the recent coronavirus variants.
