Hafez Yusuf Loonat who’s participating in the 39th King Abdul Aziz International Qur’an Memorization finals in Saudi Arabia says a person can never stop learning from the Quran.
Hafez Loonat qualified in the preliminaries and progressed to the finals which was hosted inside the Haram in Makkah yesterday.
He won the Gauteng regional stages of the South African National Quran Competition which took place in Roshnee and went onto take first place at the national competition at the Nizamiye Masjid in Midrand.
Hafez Loonat says there is no end to learning the Quran.
“The Qur’an, you can never stop learning. There’s like no end to learning, it never ends. You can never say you learnt enough and young boys also and you’ll get a shock at how they know their work as well.”
While Hafez Loonat has thanked his teachers and mentors, he has reiterated that being Hafez is a calling.
“To other hufaaz and those doing hifz, the main thing is to remember that it’s something special. Allah has chosen you and you should listen to your ustaadh and remember that this is only from Allah. We just have to make a little effort and Allah shows us the power of the Qur’an.”
SANQC’s Qari Basheer Patel says there has been a remarkable improvement in the quality of hufaaz locally and the recitation of the Quran since the competition started.
The closing ceremony and announcement of the winners will take place on Wednesday after Esha in Makkah.
