The Gupta family say they will be taking “appropriate steps” against EWN Journalist Stephen Grootes for claiming that Ajay Gupta “lied several times” during an interview nine months ago.
The interview with Grootes was recently leaked and posted on YouTube.
In a statement the Gupta family maintain they did not lie.
“Let it be recorded that Grootes’ allegation is noted but categorically denied.”
In an opinion piece titled ‘The interview I couldn’t publish. Until now’, Grootes says he had conducted literally thousands of interviews during his career but that the interview with Gupta was the toughest.
“Some of Gupta’s answers seemed to have been blatant lies, particularly his claims around ministers Des van Rooyen and Mosebenzi Zwane.”
The Gupta family say the rights of Ajay Gupta are reserved and appropriate steps will be taken against Grootes in the appropriate forum.
The Guptas have also invited Grootes to substantiate his false, defamatory claim.
