After transporting passengers for more than 37-years, Greyhound and Citiliner have announced it is closing down operations.
Greyhound says services will run until 14 February 2021.
Greyhounds operated buses across South Africa as well Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
It says passengers with tickets booked for services after this date will be refunded.
The company did not say what led to it having to make the decision to close.
Transport union Satawu said it had received Section 189 notices from Greyhound and Unitrans Passenger with plans to retrench about 600 employees.
In its notice, Unitrans says that its business was negatively affected by South Africa’s COVID-19 travel restrictions, and that the company dealt with ‘extremely difficult conditions’ which has impacted its trading performance.
