Goodbye Somalia…

June 19, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 19-06-2017

Goodbye Somalia, with tears in my I try and utter the words audibly but my heart doesn’t allow it. It explodes with emotion.

How do you say goodbye to people who have opened their homes and hearts? How do I say goodbye to the children that have captured my heart?

It was a long night for me as I looked at all the photos I’ve taken over the past few days. It wasn’t easy going through them.

Yes, the Al-Imdaad Foundation, together with IHH and the Zam Zam Foundation has provided relief aid to thousands of people over the past few days, but sadly we have to leave them behind and reconnect upon our return.

For me, I fervently wished I could’ve taken one child with me back to South Africa and try and provide him with the life he deserved. Sadly Somalia doesn’t allow adoption and it was not to be.

It’s difficult to come terms when it’s time leave. All of us on this mission carry a heavy burden asking ourselves: Was it enough, did we do enough to make the Somali people smile?

I think we did, but more still needs to done, much, much more.

So join me, fellow journalist Azhar Vadi, Al-Imdaad, IHH and Zam Zam Foundation in making dua that Allah makes the Somali peoples lives easy, lifts their difficulty they carry and shower them with His Infinite love, mercy and blessings.

Until next time Somalia, I am really going to miss you.
