There is protest action on the Golden Highway, south of Johannesburg.
Residents of Zakariyya Park, Lehae and Vlakfontein blocked roads with rocks, debris and burning tyres on Monday.
It’s understood they are protesting about not having water for the past three days.
The JMPD’s Wayne Minnaar has advised motorists to use alternate routes.
“Protests are currently happening on Golden Highway near entrance to Main Road Zakariyya Park where residents are alleging that they haven’t had water for three days. So officers are diverting traffic onto R554 also K43. Motorists can also use Provincial Road as alternative routes.”
In a tweet Joburg Water says there is a high water demand from the High Level reservoir and as a result the storage capacity cannot cope.
