As the country battles the second wave of COVID-19, humanitarian organisation Gift of the Givers has donated six CPAP machines to ambulance service Rescue 786, a subsidiary of Radio Islam International.
The donation valued at more than R 300,000 was facilitated through the Roshnee based Islamic Medical Association (IMA) on Monday at Radio Islam’s studios.
The CPAP machines treat sleep apnea by delivering oxygenated air into the body’s airways through a mask and tube.
The pressurized air prevents airways from collapsing, which allows a person to breathe continuously while sleeping.
Speaking to Radio Islam, the IMA’s Yusuf Sather says they applied to Gift of the Givers for the much-needed devices.
“The CPAP machine has been very instrumental during the COVID-19 period and with regards to transporting sick patients to the hospitals and they also use it in the hospitals as well. Gift of the Givers have donated a number of these machines to hospitals throughout South Africa.”
Rescue 786’s Ml Heider Dhorat has welcomed the donation of the CPAP machines, which he says will go a long way in assisting patients suffering from the Coronavirus.
“On behalf of Radio Islam and Rescue 786 we would like to say Jazak’Allah to Gift of the Givers Dr Imtiaz Sooliman for making these CPAP machines available to the community. May Allah accept you noble efforts and may you go from strength to strength, we highly appreciate it.”
Rescue 786 which was formed about eleven years ago, operates six ambulances servicing the greater Johannesburg area.
