The Gauteng Education Department (GDE) is investigating the conduct of a teacher from the Fred Norman Secondary School in Ennerdale, Johannesburg South, following a video showing the teacher casting racial slurs at a parent.
The video surfaced Friday, showing the altercation between the parent and the teacher.
“You say you don’t like coloureds, so why don’t you teach where you come from?” asked the parent.
The teacher responded that “coloured” people were rude.
“I don’t. I don’t like coloureds, especially coloureds like you because you guys are rude. You guys don’t have manners,” the teacher responded.
Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi was at the school yesterday to establish an investigation as he met with the School Management Team and addressed the community on the altercation.
Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona confirms that the teacher has been moved from the school but has not been suspended.
“We have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident and as soon as we are done with the process, we will communicate in due course. Accordingly, the affected educator has been precautionarily removed from the school until further notice,” he says.
