The Health Ministry in Gaza has appealed to UN agencies and humanitarian organizations to make concerted and coordinated efforts to protect health teams and establishments in Gaza.

This comes after Israeli occupation forces relentless, incessant and indiscriminate aerial attacks against civilians and residential buildings.

The ministry says at least two doctors have been killed and scores of health workers injured because of Israel’s attack.

The ministry’s Dr. Abdullatif Alhaj says amid the intensifying airstrikes and despite considerable risks to their lives, the MOH health teams across the Gaza Strip have continued working tirelessly to deliver care, putting people’s lives first.

“A number of health facilities (21), including the MOH administrative complex and Rimal clinic, have been targeted or affected by the airstrikes. Thus, COVID-19 laboratory testing services, that are solely provided at the MOH Central Laboratory in Rimal clinic, have been completely ceased, which certainly poses high risks of wide spread of the virus.”

Dr Alhaj says vital infrastructure including roads, power and water networks have been seriously damaged impeding the ability of health staff, both EMS and medical, to carry out their life-saving activities.

“The situation becomes more and more critical as the Israeli authorities close crossings and prevent entry of urgently needed medical supplies and other health commodities into Gaza that severely disrupts timely and proper delivery of health care to the wounded.”

Dr Alhaj has urged the global community to put pressure on Israel to allow entry of critically needed medical supplies into Gaza
