Gautengs Water System Could Collapse if Residents Dont Save Water

November 02, 2016

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 02-11-2016

The Gauteng Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) says if residents do not taking warnings to save water seriously the provinces water system could collapse in the next few weeks.

The department yesterday announced it will launch a centre to prepare contingency plans in the wake of dwindling water levels in the province.

The centre will monitor water levels and ensure residents comply with water restrictions to try and avert a further drop in the dam level water supply.

The department’s Mogomotsi Mogodiri says the Vaal Dam is losing water levels of about 1% every week and currently sits at 27%.

“The MEC for COGTA in Gauteng Paul Mashatile is appealing to all water users to use water sparingly so that we do not reach dangerous levels which are below 25%.”
