The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 215,855
This is an increase of 10,134 from Monday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 192 bringing the total to 3,502.
The Western Cape has the most infections with 72,156 followed by Gauteng at 71,488, Eastern Cape at 40,401, KwaZulu-Natal 16,743, Free State 3,034, North West 6,842, Mpumalanga 2,353, Limpopo 1,950, Northern Cape 888 and unallocated infections 0.
The total number of recoveries to date is 102,299, which translates to a recovery rate of 47,4%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 1,907,532, this is an increase of 43,421 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably, we report a further 192 COVID-19 related deaths- 15 from Limpopo, 22 from KwaZulu Natal, 36 from Eastern Cape, 44 from Western Cape and 75 from Gauteng. This brings the total deaths to 3 502.”
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
