The Gauteng Health Department says it is concerned about the increase in new COVID-19 cases in the province.

The department says new cases continue to increase across the province, especially in the Sedibeng District where there was a spike in the number of cases compared to the previous week.

It says in the past two weeks, an increased number of new cases were also recorded in Emfuleni, Tshwane sub-district 3 and Johannesburg  sub-district D.

Spokesperson Kwarra Kekana says non-pharmaceutical measures remain the best method of containing the spread of the Coronavirus.

“The Department urges all people in the Province to do their part to contain transmission of the virus by adhering to the preventative measures (physical distancing, wearing of masks, and hand hygiene), and to seek care early if you develop symptoms.”

Kekana says the province will continue to monitor adherence to COVID-19 measures in communities, as well as in schools, workplace and public transport.
