Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 05-10-2018

Gauteng MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi says teachers are the foundation of our civilization for their role in nurturing, educating and inspiring future leaders, professionals, artisans and workers.

Lesufi joined the world in commemorating World Teachers Day also known as International Teachers’ Day on Friday under the theme “The right to education means the right to a qualified teacher.”

World Teachers’ Day which is observed on 5 October every year focuses on appreciating, assessing and improving the educators of the world and to provide an opportunity to address issues related to teachers and teaching.

Lesufi commended teachers who work tirelessly and with passion to groom future leaders of this country saying schools stand and fall on the leadership of the school.

“We would like to applaud teachers choosing to work tirelessly for the education of our children and for not being dismayed by some of the challenges they face in their place of work. Their enormous contribution is highly appreciated and we will continuously offer support where necessary,”

Lesufi says the Gauteng Department of Education has invested substantial sums of money to train educators to use and adapt ICT in over 300 township-based schools.

“These are versatile educators who can easily utilise a computer to teach and contribute towards the realisation of the fourth industrial revolution. The department has a responsibility to continue provide necessary support to these e-educators of the future.”

Lesufi reiterated says educators and learners should work and learn in a safe and conducive environment reiterating that, violence against educators should be strongly condemned.
