The ANC provincial leadership in Gauteng has come out in Cyril Ramaphosa’s support as the president seeks a second term as the party’s leader.

In what is said to be an expected move by analysts, the party’s provincial executive committee (PEC) stated following at a meeting on Friday that it is in support of Ramaphosa’s re-election as the president as the ruling party is set to host its elective conference in December this year.

The ANC in Gauteng’s endorsement comes after the Eastern Cape, Limpopo,

Mpumalanga and North West have so far thrown their weight in support of Ramaphosa second term.

Speaking in Washington DC after meeting with US president Joe Biden, the South African president says the process is underway.

“I too have noted some of these sentiments that are coming through from the provinces and the nomination process is going to start soon and I will wait for that nomination process,” says Ramaphosa.

He further reminisced on the moments he was elected as deputy president.

“When I was elected deputy president in 2012, I had to wait until the very last moment to sign form – because you have to sign an acceptance form, so it’s not for me to say what the stance is now, it’s for those who are nominating to do their work, make their preference,” he says.

The province has further nominated Paul Mashatile for Deputy President, and Nomvula Mokonyane for Deputy Secretary-General.
