Journalist and author Sizwe Sama Yende says while David Mabusa has been appointed the new Deputy President of South Africa, people must be aware that he is a man mired in allegations of politically-motivated assassinations, corruption and greed.
Yende who has survived being ambushed at gun point, being labelled a traitor and tempted with bribes was speaking to Radio Islam on Wednesday morning about his new book ‘A Journalist’s nightmare in Mpumalanga’.
Mabusa also known as “The Cat” was sworn in as a Member of Parliament on Tuesday after President Cyril Ramaphosa appointed him as his deputy on Monday night.
Yende says there has been a lot of allegations against Mabusa including fraud, corruption and manipulation of the branches in the African National Congress (ANC) while he was the Provincial Chairperson of the Mpumalanga province.
He says Mabusa has also been accused of political assassinations.
“People say that all those politicians who have blown the whistle of corruption and all those politicians who have become his rivals and so on have been intimidated and some of them have been assassinated.”
Yende says he blames the police as they did not do enough to investigate Mabuza.
“Police have been doing a shoddy job on these political assassination cases. That’s why we are sitting here today, they remain unresolved. Nobody who killed Jimmy Mohlala, the guy who was shot dead while he was exposing the corruption in the Mbombela Stadium tenders.”
Although “the cat” has positioned himself as a clean leader, seeking to unite and root out corruption in both his political party and the country, Mabuza is perceived by some in the ANC as a dirty politician, who has ruled his home province with an iron fist.
