By Neelam Rahim

Headlines made this week when Former State Security Agency Head Arthur Fraser has laid a criminal complaint against President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The complaint relates to the alleged theft of more than US$4 million which was “concealed” from both the police and SARS at the president’s Phala Phala farm at Waterberg in Limpopo on 9 February 2020.

In a media statement released 01 June 2022 Fraser says, “Today I have taken the unprecedented step to lay criminal charges against His Excellency, the President of the Republic of South Africa, Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa. The details of the chargers and the supporting evidence, including photographs, bank accounts, video footage and names are contained in my statement filed with the Rosebank Police Station.”

“I trust that the police and the prosecuting authorities will investigate this matter without fear or favour. I also trust that the president will take the nation into his confidence and accept or deny that the events I describe in my affidavit occurred on his property,” He added.

Fraser also alleges that suspects colluded with Ramaphosa’s domestic worker, He says the suspects were kidnapped and interrogated on the President’s property and later bribed for their silence.

Police spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe confirmed that a case of money laundering, defeating the ends of justice and kidnapping has been registered at the Rosebank Police Station, due processes will follow.”

The Presidency has not yet commented.
