France has shutdown three mosques since the state of emergency was implemented after the November 13 terrorist attacks in Paris.
Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve says French police carried out a raid at the mosque in Lagny-sur-Marne, a suburb of Paris on Wednesday and placed nine “radicalised” suspects under house arrest.
He says two other mosques were closed last week in Lyon and Gennevilliers, another Paris suburb.
Cazeneuve told journalists this is the first time France has taken such action against places of worship suspected of nurturing what he called “Islamist radicalization”.
Parliament instituted the state of emergency until February 26 after last month’s terrorist attacks killed 130 people.
ISIS has claimed responsibility for the near-simultaneous attacks in cafés, bars, restaurants, the national football stadium and a concert hall. – Agencies
