Four suspects were arrested on Tuesday in Lenasia for the possession of an illegal firearm and stolen vehicle.

Police say they were performing patrol duties in Lenasia Policing Precinct when they received a complaint of a suspicious vehicle on c/o Flamingo Street and Nirvana Drive, Lenasia Extension 1.

Upon arrival, police found a white Volkswagen Polo at the garage. “There were four (04) occupants: two males and two females. The officers introduced themselves and asked for permission to search and permission was granted,” reads a statement released by the Lenasia station commander Brigadier Theledi Zacharia Gopane.

The statement adds that police found a pistol on one of the suspects. While officers tested the registration number of the motor vehicle and found that it was reported stolen at Lenasia South Policing Precinct in November 2020.

“The officers further asked about the ownership of the motor vehicle and they gave unreasonable explanation,” says Brigadier Theledi Zacharia Gopane.

The officers seized the motor vehicle and firearm as exhibit and arrested the suspects. They are currently detained at SAPS Lenasia Cells, and they will appear shortly at Lenasia Magistrates Court.

The SAPS Lenasia Station Commander Brigadier Gopane commended the members for an excellent job well executed. He further thanked the community for the positive information that led to the recovery of the stolen motor vehicle and unlicensed firearm, and arrest of the perpetrators.
