Former ANC City of Joburg councilor and activist writes open letter to ANC members

July 12, 2022

By Neelam Rahim

A staunch ANC member, former ANC councillor in the City of Johannesburg and activist Sipho Masigo has written an explosive letter addressed to fellow ANC members, bemoaning the developments within the party. In his letter, he predicted that the ANC would lose the 2024 elections in Gauteng, stating that people have lost faith in the party.

In a discussion with Radio Islam, Sipho Masigo expresses his love for the ANC and his disappointment in the new leadership.

“The leaders have taken the ANC in the direction we are in today. I’m not the first that has penned a letter showing my discontent with the leadership as I have seen it done from leaders in the past who have shown expression that this is not the ANC we know,” says Sipho.

He added, “I mentioned in my letter that Mavuso Msimang had penned a letter asking the President to step down. I dread those many voices showing disgruntlement as we love the ANC and are not happy with what’s happening.”

Sipho also mentions that the trend in the movement is dropping in terms of its numbers.

“Since 1994, we’ve been dropping. In the last two years, the biggest challenge has been things I’ve mentioned in the letter, the COVID PPE scandals, the July unrest, the infighting, and the issues of The Zondo commission state capture report. And just generally keeping an ear on the ground and hearing what people are complaining about. The Eskom issues are another big issue that’s getting everybody upset. And it’s not helping because most of those who are in leadership. The President is not clear and does not have any solutions,” says Sipho.

Arguing that there is no strong leadership, Sipho’s frustration, like many other South Africans, has led him to pen this letter.
