Food Lovers Market Responds to Allegations Of Assault At Its Lenasia Branch

February 27, 2018

Mohamed Ameen Dabhelia – 2018/02/27

The Food Lovers Market group says internal disciplinary proceedings will begin after a video circulating on social media shows employees assaulting an employee at the retailers Lenasia branch.

Circumstances surrounding the incident are still sketchy, however it is believed that the argument ensued when one of the workers failed to wear the branded uniform of the store on Sunday while on duty.

According to the statement released by the company on Tuesday, it claims that the employee who is seen in the video being restrained and held to the ground, had prior to the filming of this incident, allegedly attempted to stab his supervisor with a knife.

The statement also reads that; “witness accounts from other team members who were present at the time of the incident confirm how the altercation started.”

At the same time, the South African Police Services are investigating a case of assault and grievous bodily harm.

Spokesperson Hector Netshivodza confirmed to Radio Islam that the branch manager, owner and security personnel assaulted two people.

All the individuals involved in the incident are due to appear in the Lenasia Magistrates Court where they will be charged.
