FNB Launches New ConeXis Smartphones

First National Bank (FNB) has launched the next generation of its smartphones branded under the FNB name.

The ConeXis A2 and the flagship ConeXis X2 was unveiled on Wednesday in Fairlands in Johannesburg.

The ConeXis X2 has a metallic finish, 5-inch HD IPS display with 32GB storage capacity and 3GB of ram. It has a multifunctional fingerprint sensor and enhanced dual rear camera, one is 13 megapixels, the other 2MP — and a 5MP front-facing camera.

ConeXis X2 runs Android Nougat and supports Tap & Pay functionality using Near Field Communication (NFC) and has a pre-installed FNB widget that allows instant message viewing, viewing of Connect subscription usage balances and access to perform a quick recharge should the need arise.

To get an X2, customer must have at least R1 500 in an FNB savings account and will pay R199 per month for 24 months. The contract comes with a monthly 25 minutes of calls and 100MB of data on FNB Connect network that piggybacks on Cell C’s infrastructure.

Customer on different eBucks levels get between 10% and 100% off the price.

The lower spec’d A2 also has a metallic finish with a 4.5 inch display, 8GB memory and 1GB of ram. It is powered by an improved 2000 mAh battery and a quad core processor.

To get the A2, customer must have R500 in their savings account R69 per month for 24 and comes with a monthly 15 minutes of voice and 50MB of data and eBucks level discounts also apply.

In addition, the bank announced its new data and voice packages which includes the FNB Connect Ultimate Voice package and a Double Your Data promotion deal on once off data bundles.

FNB’s Shadrack Palmer says it’s been a year since it became the first bank in Africa to launch its own branded smartphones.

“We are incredibly excited by our digital journey and ongoing commitment to empower our customers with tools to fully embrace an end to end digital experience.”

Both phones are SIM-locked to the FNB Connect network, and will be on sale from 2 October at all FNB branches.

FNB says once customers have paid off the devices, it will provide an unlock code so they can be used on any network.
