Five Lions Slaughtered by Poachers at Akwaaba Predator Park in Rustenburg

October 03, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 03-10-2018

The Akwaaba Predator Park in Rustenburg in the North West say they are shocked after five lions were slaughtered by poachers in the park.

It’s understood the 3 males and 2 female lions were allegedly poisoned by a group of poachers after they cut through the perimeter fence and broke into the reserve early Tuesday morning.

The alleged poachers were disturbed by the reserves security and fled the scene.

Akwaaba predator park manager Pieter de Jager says they are heartbroken by the tragedy.

“They came through the fence, they poisoned the five lions and then they started to cut of the feet of the one lion, the feet and the jaw of the other lions. Then the security went down and saw them. They immediately called me, when we all went there, they were leaving everything just like that and they were running.”

De Jager says they are offering a cash reward for any information that leads to the successful arrest and conviction of the poachers.

“There’a reward of R 110,000 that’s been put out to the public or any information on the poachers.”
