Mitchells Plain, at the heart of the Cape Flats gang lands, is on knife edge as residents fear the possibility of a gang war after former American gang boss, 56-year-old Kaldimola ‘Dimes’ Madatt, was shot dead on Sunday.

He was buried on Tuesday after being shot eleven times, and his bodyguard was also wounded when the two were attacked while walking to his family home.

Western Cape Community MEC for safety Reagen Allen has received a preliminary investigative report regarding the motive for the murder of Kaldimola Madatt on Sunday.

Speaking at Radio Islam International, Allen said that even though the investigation is ongoing, it appears to be an internal gang fight between the local American gang within the Rocklands and Mitchells Plain area.

Reportedly, there are concerns from the residents that while Kadimola was a gang boss, there was some order, and he showed some degree of respect to the elderly. They fear the young generation, who are power-hungry and trigger-happy, will lead to more killings in the December period.

According to Allen, the community concern is valid because there is room for retaliation when gang killings occur. However, safety teams will be on the ground, ensuring no further flare-ups.

“One person has already been arrested, there are several suspects which law enforcement and SAPS are currently searching for, and we are positive that further arrests will be made,” he said.
