Faith-Based Groups Urge Ramaphosa to Host Summit to Address Crime & Violence in SA

September 20, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 20-09-2018

Faith based organisations, religious groups and civil society have urged President Cyril Ramaphosa to host a Summit where all role-players and stakeholders are involved to address the increased crime and violence in the country.

The groups including the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) marched to Parliament in the Silent Peace Prayer march on Thursday where they handed over a memorandum addressed to Ramaphosa.

The organisations says they want the president and cabinet to address the injustices that are contributing to the mood of despair in the country.

The MJC’s Mishka Daries says South Africa has wondered very far from the spirit and the letter of the constitution and is urging Government to become accountable for restoring the lived experience of the human rights.

“We are urging Government to accept that we, the people, are committed to the process of betterment and are willing to work in partnership with government to achieve peace and create a solution that will enable us to raise our children in safety, and to leave a sustainable world for them to inherit.”
