Following scorching temperatures, The South Africa Weather Service says cold weather conditions are expected to affect the southern, central and eastern parts of the country from Tuesday.
The service says the wintery weather will include snowfalls mainly over the southern and central parts of the Drakensberg accompanied by cold conditions over many parts of South Africa.
The weather service’s Edward Engelbrecht says Provinces most likely to be affected include the southern parts of the Western and Eastern Cape before the conditions spread north and east to the Free State, North-West, KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga on Wednesday and Thursday.
“We have a cold front moving over the southern parts of the country which will spread today. There is a risk of localized heavy rain and flash flooding in parts of KwaZulu-Natal.”
Engelbrecht says the cold conditions are expected to last until Friday when predominantly clear skies and warmer conditions will return to the country.
