Vodacom and Absa executives will contribute one third of their salary to the Solidarity Fund. The fund was established to support the struggle against the Covid-19 pandemic.
Last week, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that he, the deputy president, and members of cabinet, would take a 33% pay cut over the next three months, and that the money would be donated to the Solidarity Fund. He called on MPs, public officials and executives to do the same.
In a statement Vodacom group chief executive officer, Shameel Joosub, said he had heard the call by the president, and is to donate a third of his salary for the next three months to the Fund.
Absa executives will also relinquish 33% of their monthly salaries for the next three months. They are to donate these monies to both the Solidarity Fund as well as the Group’s Covid-19 community support programmes.
Earlier, FirstRand announced that the executives of its main businesses would waive 30% of their salaries for three months.
FirstRand chief executive officer, Alan Pullinger, said that the group wanted to demonstrate unity with the president and his ministers.
