Even The Dead Are Being Affected by Al Aqsa Standoff

July 25, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 25-07-2017

Israel has decided to remove metal detectors it had placed at the entrance to al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the occupied East Jerusalem and replace them with more advanced surveillance cameras.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet voted to remove the metal detector gates after a meeting lasting several hours convening for a second time yesterday.

Clashes over the al-Aqsa Mosque compound has persisted amid diplomatic efforts.

Israel installed metal detectors and security cameras after gunmen shot dead two Israeli guards near al-Aqsa compound – Islam’s third holiest site – on July 14.

Reports indicate that even the dead are being affected by the standoff.

While Israeli security forces tell the mourners to go inside the Al Aqsa Mosque and that there is no logic to carrying out the prayer in the street Palestinians say they will not enter the mosque until the new security measures are removed.

Carrying the body in the mosque is what would usually happen.

This Palestinian says no one has any intention of backing down.

It’s going to depend on who lasts the longest. We have that stamina and Insha’Allah we will achieve our goals and enter Al Aqsa in the way that we want, no gates, no camera’s no anything. We will return to Al Aqsa like before and with even more dignity.”

The United Nations Middle East envoy Nickolay Mladenov says it is extremely important that a solution to the current crisis be found by Friday.

“The dangers on the ground will escalate if we go through another cycle of Friday prayer without a resolution to this current crisis.”

At least five Palestinians have been killed and hundreds injured in clashes sparked by the new security measures.

On Friday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced that the Palestinian leadership will freeze all contact with Israel.
