Eskom says Gauteng residents will be hit by persistent power cuts this weekend due to network disruptions caused by illegal connections.

The power utility says it will continue rolling out what it’s calling load reduction to mitigate the issue.

It says residents can expect the outages during peak hours in the morning from 5am to 9am as well as in the evenings between 5pm and 10pm.

Meanwhile City Power has assured residents in Johannesburg affected by unplanned power cuts that electricity will be restored by Monday.

A number of areas in Johannesburg including Lenasia and Lenasia South are battling ongoing power cuts at times with no explanations.

But the utility says some of its substations are being burdened by overloading due to illegal connections.

City Power says cables were damaged in some areas and a distributor exploded at the Lunar substation.
