Eskom says there may be no load shedding for the rest of this year until January 2019.
The power utility has been battling to keep the lights on with stage one and two load shedding implemented on an almost daily basis,
In a statement, Eskom says it has not implemented load shedding in four consecutive days and the probability of load shedding remains low as a result of the expected decrease in demand as businesses and industries close down for the festive break.
Eskom however says heavy rains over the December to March period could impact coal handling which could lead to load shedding.
“While we do not anticipate load shedding we continue to warn customers that as the system remains vulnerable, any shift could increase the probability of load shedding. Eskom will communicate if there is a change.”
Eskom says it continues to implement a short-to medium-term 9-point recovery programme that will see steady and sustained improvement in plant performance and coal stock levels.
