((( LISTEN TO THE NASEEHA OF ML DAWOOD SEEDAT ON THE HARMS OF MUSIC HERE )))

Marshall Bruce Mathers III, better known as Eminem (AKA Slim Shady) is headed to South Africa for the first time ever to deliver his unique style of rap.

Tickets for the concert have already been sold out, but the question that needs to be asked is: As a Muslim should we be attending a concert by an artist that is no stranger to controversy.

An artist that displays a character which is totally contradictory to the teachings of  Islam and our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The 41-year old rapper has a history of drug abuse. In a recent interview in Rolling Stone magazine, he was quoted as saying: “I relapsed on drugs. It was a little creepy. I certainly had some dark times with that s***, mostly due to taking a lot of pills and f****** drooling on myself. It was a s*** time.”

And people still swarm to his concerts? Is this a person that should be emulated by thousands around the globe?

Eminem’s lyrics are vile and disses Islam and Muslims, yet is on the lips of those that flock to listen to his rap.

In one of Eminem songs, ‘Quitter (Everlast diss)’ he raps:

“You claim to be a Muslim but you Irish White, so **** you fat boy, drop the mic, lets fight”

Then in ‘Osama Bin Laden Diss’ track where he imitates bin Laden he raps:

“The strangest things can happen to an Afghan when people get wrapped up in Islam and Allah.”

When Justin Bieber toured South Africa, Radio Islam’s Mufti Zubair Bhayat warned that the Muslim community, people should not be attending music, pop and rock concerts because it's completely haraam, it's a major sin in Islam and they are putting their Iman at stake.

“And think about the fact that if us or our children, Allah forbid you know have to meet up with a tragic accident going or coming from these kind of haraam places. How are we going to face Allah’ Ta’ala on the day of Qiaamah (Judgement)?” said Mufti Bhayat.

He said it is extremely heart breaking to learn that Muslims in large numbers are buying concert tickets and will be attending these concerts. “Youngsters especially, and I believe, leave alone youngsters, but even more tragic and more heart breaking is the fact that many of our young girls, our young daughters will be attending these types of functions, with the support and blessing of their parents, of their families,” added Mufti Bhayat.

Moulana Dawood Seedat, the Khalifah of Moulana Yunus Patel says that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Music heeds hypocrisy; it creates nifaq (hypocrisy) in the heart, just as water causes the crops to grow.”

“This nifaq is actually kuffar. So when a person is going to listen to this music, then slowly, slowly,  hypocrisy starts entering the heart and it is feared that this person, Allah forbid, that a person can actually lose his or her iman,” said Moulana Seedat.

As an alternative to music, Moulana Seedat said that Muslims have the Qur’an. “For us as believers, if we fall in love with the Qur’an Shareef, we don’t need anything else. The Qur’an Shareef has got such beauty in it. There is such noor (light) in the Qur’an Shareef, that if we have to fall in love with Qur’an Shareef, we will not find enough time during the day to read Qur’an Shareef.”

Moulana Seedat said because we are weak people and we want variety, Allah has blessed many personalities with beautiful voices who use their voice to recite naat shareef.

“So as long as these naats (Urdu poetry), these hamds (praises of Allah), these ashaar (poems) does not have any musical instruments and the person who is reciting it also is a person who is following shariat, then that is a beautiful alternative for us.”

Ibn Abaas (RA) narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said “Verily you will die (according to the condition) as you lived in this world and you will be resurrected in the condition you died.”

May Allah Ta'ala give taufiq, Hidayat, guidance and understanding to one an all. May Allah Ta’ala protect our beloved children and the Ummah to abstain from all these fitnahs, haraam actions, to stay away from haraam places, to stay away from people who actually destroy and corrupt the morals and Imaan of the Ummah.
