Emfuleni Residents Now in Fourth Day Without Water

May 29, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 29-05-2018

Rand Water says there are still some parts of Emfuleni, south of Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni and Mogale City that are without water.

Residents have been left without water for four days after the theft of an electricity cable resulted in a loss of power supply which impacted the pumping of water to reservoirs.

Rand Water’s Justice Mohale says they immediately started pumping water once the electricity was restored, but suffered setbacks following a power outage at an Emfuleni municipality pumping station which prevented the flow of water into reservoirs.

“As a result that was a serious backlog, we could not pump. We thought that maybe by this morning everybody else will be having water. But that hours we did not have electricity affected us badly.”

Mohale says he is unable to say when the water supply would be fully restored.

“During the day water consumption is very high and when it’s high, it’s difficult to replenish the reservoirs.”

Mohale says they are working around the clock to resolve the water outages.
