Eikenhof Substation Explosion to Affect Water Supply in Parts of Gauteng

August 27, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 27-08-2018

Rand Water says residents in parts of western Johannesburg, the West Rand as well as Rustenburg in the North West province will be without water after an explosion at the Eikenhof Pumping Station.

It’s understood the blaze broke out just after 1 pm on Monday afternoon.

The transformer is owned by Johannesburg City Power and is part of the electricity facility supplying power to the Eikenhof Pumping Station.

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena says no staff members were injured during the explosion.

“Power outages were expected in Naturena, Kibler Park, Alveda, Rand Water, Eikenhof and Lougherin.  The Johannesburg Prison is also affected.”

Rand Water’s Justice Mohale says the explosion has affected Rand Water’s normal operations.

“It will affect water supply in parts of western Johannesburg, the West Rand, and Rustenburg in the North West.”

Due to affected water supply, residents have been urged to use water sparingly.
