The United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) has confirmed that the moon for the Islamic month of Shawwal has not been sighted.
UUCSA’s Ml Ebrahim Bham made the announcement on Saturday night.
“After much deliberation and after different reports that have come in and taking into account the Shariah requirements with regards to sighting, the United Ulama Council of South Africa have determined that the moon for the month of Shawwal which normally heralds Eid-ul-Fitr has not been sighted. Thus Eid would take place in South Africa on Monday.”
This means that the blessed month of Ramadan will have 30 days in South Africa and Muslims throughout the country will be fasting for one more day.
